What does ACT therapy look like?

Therapy is more than just a client talking and a therapist giving advice. It is a joint journey that both the client and therapist take in order to manage the issues bothering you and create positive change. Since every client is unique, your sessions are tailored to your specific needs, and my approach varies in the interventions and techniques used. Sessions include talking, listening, asking questions, engaging in discussions, setting goals, doing experiential exercises, learning and practicing new skills, filling out worksheets, and evaluating progress. Throughout this process, you are an active participant, meaning you influence the course and pace of the therapy, as well as what you do or do not wish to discuss in each session.

What happens during the first session?

Seeking professional support for the first time can sometimes feel awkward or uncomfortable. This is completely normal. So our first session is focused on establishing a connection and ensuring you feel safe and comfortable. I will invite you to share some of your story — in as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable sharing, so that I can get to know you and understand what is troubling you.
It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about me or my professional work.

How long is a session?

Individual session lasts for 50 - 60 minutes.
Couple session lasts for 90 minutes.

How frequent are sessions?

Typically, sessions take place once a week or once every two weeks. To get most out of therapy, sessions should be regular, especially in the beginning. However, this is flexible depending on your individual needs and circumstances, and subject to our mutual agreement.

How many sessions are needed?

There is no straight answer. Each client is unique with different needs, goals, and expectations, so the number of sessions varies from person to person. Ultimately, you are the one who determines the length of the process through your commitment to working on yourself and your personal goals.

What if we are not a good match?

For me, empathy, confidentiality, and authenticity are integral to therapy, so that we can work successfully toward your goals. I am patient in listening and committed to supporting my clients as they create positive change in their lives. If this sounds like the kind of support you are looking for, I would be glad if you reach out.
If, after the first few sessions, you feel that we are not a good match or you do not feel comfortable, it is your right to discontinue our work. Feeling at ease, establishing positive connection and trust is the foundation of a successful therapeutic process. If such a relationship is not established, or if I assess that my approach and qualifications are not the best fit for your specific needs, I will happily refer you to another professional.

Is therapy the right decision for you?

Many people find it challenging to seek help. The society we live in sometimes labels issues like anxiety, depression, or loneliness as signs of weakness or inadequacy. However, the truth is that we all face challenging times at various points in our lives. There is no need to face them alone.
On the other hand, you may feel that what you are experiencing is not "serious enough" to seek professional help, or you may feel unsure about the kind of support therapy can offer you.
If you are unsure whether therapy is the right decision for you at this moment, feel free to contact me for more information.

Where do sessions take place?

I offer in-person and online sessions (video consultations).
In-person sessions take place in Zagreb (Borovje) and Velika Gorica, while online sessions provide flexibility regardless of your location.

If you have any other questions about therapy or how I work, feel free to contact me before booking your first session.
