WHAT IS ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY?

ACT is a powerful and creative psychotherapy approach that teaches individuals to:

  • Acknowledge and accept how the human mind works
  • Change behaviors that move you away from the person you want to be, and commit to taking actions that get you closer to desired life
  • Create a meaningful life – one that is built on your values, goals, and what truly matters to you

The aim of ACT is to teach you how to be present and take action that matters to you, even when difficult thoughts and feelings arise.

I often hear clients say, "I just want to be happy." But the truth is, pursuing happiness often comes at the expense of the very thing we desire. Trying to be happy all the time can be exhausting and, ultimately, an unhappy pursuit.
It is perfectly normal to experience difficult thoughts and feelings. We all have a range of internal experiences that can be pleasant, painful, or anything in between. While difficult thoughts and feelings will always be part of life, they don't have to define it. ACT teaches you how to handle them with more ease. Instead of chasing the fleeting emotion of happiness, ACT encourages you to build a meaningful life, embracing both good and bad times.
